## 2nd Quarter: December 5 - 9

## Monday, December 5th and Tuesday, December 6th

**6th Period/1st Period: Today in class...**

- Today we started out looking at work done by a variable force. As the force changes, so does the work accomplished. Therefore a force vs. displacement graph is used where the work is the area between the line and axis.
- After that, we did one warm up problem with work and forces before talking about the work/energy theorem. This is a very helpful theorem that will come in handy in the future!
- Towards the end of class we derived this formula and will do more practice with it next time!

## Wednesday, December 7th

**1stPeriod/6th Period: Today in class....**

- We started with a quick warm-up with work done by a variable force before going back to the work-energy theorem.
- Together, we looked at example 5 with a skiier going downhill and then had a chance to look at example 6 independently. (Solutions to 5 and 6 are attached below)
- For 1st period - we ended looking at our challenge problem and many of you guys successfully solving it!
- For 6th period - we went a little more forward and talked about graviational potential energy

## Friday, December 9th

**6th Period: Today in class....**

- Today we started with our second to last presentation from Dildar - great topic!
- Afterwards, we looked at a huge idea in physics - the conservation of energy.
- With conservation of energy, the total mechanical energy of a system remains constant as an object moves (in perfect physics world at least!).
- We looked at our super-cool half-pipe skate boarder to see a little more of how energy is transformed from kinetic to gravitational potential and back, still keeping the total energy of the system constant.
