2nd and 4th Periods: Today in class….
  • Welcome!
  • Today in class, we went over a lot of the beginning class materials, expectations, etc…
  • We also looked at what physics is as a discipline and who are physicists.
  • After that, we had our first engineering challenge. Both creative and structurally sound designs!
  • (Notes from today are attached below)

HOMEWORK: Intro assignment  - *Type your responses to the following:
  • Are you an experimental or theoretical physicist? Why?
  • Go to the page below to look at the different fields of physics
http://physics.about.com/od/physics101thebasics/f/FieldsPhysics.htm
  • —From there, tell me which field seems most interesting to you and explain why.
  • —Pick one that is unfamiliar to you, click on it, read it, then write one sentence IN YOUR OWN WORDS that summarizes what that field is about.

2nd and 4th Periods: Today in class….
  • Today we talked about how physicists 'describe' the motion of objects using variables of time to tell you when, displacement or distance to tell you where, and velocity or speed to tell you how fast.
  • After a discussion of time - is it scalar or vector :)   We looked at our first three class examples.
  • The notes and solutions to class examples from today are attached below.
